Kenya eTA for Chilean citizens - Requirements and Fees

Kenya is one of Africa's most sought-after destinations. Its distinct cuisine, as well as its geographical and cultural diversity, make it one of the most exciting places to visit on the planet. If you want to stay in Kenya, you'll need a Kenya visa for Chileans, which you can get quickly from Kenya Immigration Services

Kenya eTA for Chilean citizens:

Chilean citizens can apply for a Kenya Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) online, and the application typically takes about 20 minutes to complete.

Kenyan authorities recently changed the entry requirements. Previously, you had to apply for an e-visa before arriving. It has now been replaced by the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), which must be obtained before arrival in Kenya.

If you are planning a trip to Kenya, you are in for a treat. The new Kenya eTA for Chilean citizens has made visiting Kenya a lot easier than before. With the introduction of the Kenya eTA, traveling to Kenya has become significantly more convenient for foreign visitors.

1. What is a Kenya eTA for Chilean citizens?

The Kenya Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), introduced in 2024, allows citizens of eligible countries to visit Kenya for tourism, business, or medical purposes on a short-term basis.

The acronym ETA stands for "Electronic Travel Authorization" and is an electronic travel authorization allowing foreign nationals to enter certain countries without having to obtain a traditional visa. Kenya abolished traditional visas on January 1, 2024, replacing them with the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system.

This form of authorisation greatly simplifies the administrative formalities involved in travelling, as well as document requirements for those visiting the country concerned for a short period. Each country has its own rules concerning the ETA.

Chile is among the countries whose citizens are eligible to apply for a Kenya eTA. If travelers are unsure about their eligibility, they may verify requirements through official Kenyan immigration channels.

The Kenya eTA application form can be completed from a smartphone, laptop, or other electronic device. Chileans receive their approved Kenya eTA by email.

The Kenya eTA allows Chilean citizens to stay in Kenya for up to 90 consecutive days. The Kenya eTA permits a single entry. For multiple trips to Kenya, simply reapply online.

Chilean nationals traveling to Kenya for more than 03 months, or for non-tourism purposes, need to apply for an eTA through the Kenya embassy in Chile.

Type of Kenya evisa:

  • Kenya Transit ETA: This authorization allows travelers to stay in Kenya for up to 72 hours during transit.
  • Kenya Business ETA: This authorization allows Chilean citizens to travel to Kenya for business-related activities. You can stay in the country for a total of 90 days, which means your Visa is valid for 90 days after it is issued.
  • Kenya tourist e-visa: This visa allows citizens of Chile to go on holiday to Kenya. It permits tourism and leisure activities while staying in the country.  This authorization allows a stay of up to 90 days.
  • East Africa Tourist Visa: This visa allows multiple entries between Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda within a 90-day validity period.

Do I need to apply for an ETA to transit through Kenya?

To address this topic, it should be recalled that in 2024, the Kenyan government implemented an ETA for nationals of most nations, with the exception of border dwellers. This electronic authorization is essential for all travelers who desire to remain in Kenya on a tourism, business, or medical trip. However, if you are merely passing through Kenya on your route to another location, the need for an ETA will be determined by whether or not you intend to stay in Kenya.

Travelers who remain within the international transit area of Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) do not require an ETA. If you remain in the airport's international zone, no further procedures are necessary.

However, if you need to leave the airport to spend the night in a hotel or make a brief trip to Nairobi, you may need to apply for an ETA.

The same is true for boats (including cruise ships), which do not require an ETA to transit or stay on the boat without disembarking.

2. Kenya eTA / Evisa requirements for Chilean citizens:

Before Chilean nationals begin the application process for a Kenya eTA, they must first consider all of the Kenya entry requirements that must be met in order for the electronic eTA to be approved.

The Kenya eTA requirements for Chilean citizens are:

  • Valid Chilean passport: Chilean citizens must hold a passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry, with at least two blank pages. The Chilean national will be required to submit digital copies of his or her passport, including biographical and cover pages, to the Kenya eTA application form. When entering Kenya, the passport must have at least 2 blank pages.
  • A recent passport-style digital photograph in color.
  • Chilean applicants may be required to submit their travel plans, including which cities they intend to visit, activities they intend to participate in, and a copy of their hotel/accommodation reservations (where they plan to stay during their trip).
  • Email address where notifications and the approved eTA will be sent.
  • Business documents (for Business eTA): to get qualified, you need to provide an invitation letter from your company's partner in Kenya, a company COI, and your information card (staff ID/business card).

Chilean visitors must print a copy of their approved eTA and present it along with the same passport used during the application.  They must have the same Chilean passport that they used during the application process. This is due to the fact that the eTA is directly linked to a single passport, and if eTA holders present a different document, their eTA will be considered invalid, and they will be denied entry into the country.

In addition to presenting the documents, Chilean citizens crossing the Kenyan border must comply with Kenyan authorities' requests and follow local customs regulations.
